Social Enterprise
We will be delivering enterprise mentoring through Rotherham Enterprise Board and local social enterprise to challenge and invigorate commercial and entrepreneurial thinking!
What's that I hear you say? Rotherham. Yes, Rotherham is now it is official, Rotherham is now the most enterprising town in Britain!
Of course, it always was. The BIG Consultant is based here. And many great social and industrial firsts started here, so it always was (apart from some problems in the 80's), but enough of these trivialities, read on!
Industry...
We conduct on-site training teach the implementation of the lastest
methods in production and manufacturing, LEAN and
Design for
Six Sigma. In this example, training was
delivered to two people, the designer and the toolmaker. The company
wished to expand their product range, to include simple high yield
products using under utilise injection moulding machines, and save money
using CNC.
Bespoke training included drawing these stacking and nesting boxes, which were suggested for the range, and also provided the best training opportunity to utilise drafts and shrinkage data calculated into the model. CNC data was output, and the training covered:
- Creating solid models (see picture above)
- Design of assemblies (model into tool, water channels etc)
- PDM Data Management (setting up data management)
- CNC Machine output for tooling
- Laser, STL, CNC Punch, Multi Axis Machine Centre, 2D Router for example
- Engineering Drawing creation
- 2D to 3D conversion techniques
- Designing new products using SolidWorks
- Optimisation of tooling, jigs and fixtures
Many companies have yet to fully utilise the benefits of advanced CAD techniques, and the benefits in terms of sales, reduction of prototypes, mechanical simulation and reduced time-to-market are immense.

This Robot Car project delivered, for three years, the highest value added results of any subject at a specialist Technology College, in the subjects of Manufacturing and Engineering. All designed, including coursework, by The BIG Consultant. More details to follow soon, or email for more details
Creating exciting and interesting projects using a mixture of microcontroller electronics using PICAXE, machine tool use, programming CNC machines (including laser cutter and 4 axis CNC router) and integrating with the National Strategy at KS4.
Producing exciting technology and design challenges, using the available workshop equipment to promote problem solving, teamwork and key skills for younger learners.

Furthermore we are working to build alliances with training providers to better understand and advance the issues in primary and secondary education today. Alongside delivering the latest professional skills and CAD design to industry.
The future of engineering in the UK depends on it.
